Clinical features

Awareness is clinically impaired in children but in adolescents there may be some retained awareness.

It is unusual for seizures to last greater than 45s, start during adulthood or be associated with post-ictal confusion. In these circumstances consider focal seizures with impaired awareness as a differential diagnosis.
