MRI of the brain often shows abnormalities affecting the medial temporal lobes though changes in other areas including the basal ganglia, amygdala, hippocampus, cerebral cortex and corpus callosum have been described. MRI of the brain at the time of presentation may be normal. EEG may show evidence of epileptiform activity.
