Definition

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is a clinico-radiological syndrome characterised by headache, seizures, visual loss and reduced conscious level and white matter vasogenic oedema affecting the occipital and parietal lobes.

The visual changes associated with PRES are very variable and include blurred vision, visual field defects and cortical blindness.
