Investigations

Bedside tests: Urinalysis Blood tests: ANCA is useful and may demonstrate a positive proteinase 3 (PR3)-ANCA on antigen-specific immunoassay and cANCA (cytoplasmic pattern) on immunofluorescence testing. Note that around 9-16% of patients with GPA do not have a positive ANCA. It should also be remembered that a positive ANCA can occur in other conditions and with drug use so as always the test should be interpreted in the clinical context.
